you're not looking at this like the law does. George zimmerman was found innocent, so the damage to his character that causes him to be unemployable is unjust in the eyes of the law. and if they cooked the books on top of that its not good. Zim is only suing the family too because you want to cast as wide of a net as u can in these types of suites.

I work with a lot of lawyers on legal matters and they're very concrete about stuff, almost to the point of idiocity.

There is no lawyer that can prove that GZ would have all the sudden became a productive member of society had this event not happened.

Lawyers recently made a law here in Ohio that will make doctors guilty of murder if they don't do a procedure that is impossible....my MD was just bitching about how dumb the political system is. We work with criminal justice apparatus so much I'm sworn in as a deputy clerk in my county and I will tell you they are all fucking clueless.

I'm sure GZ could have made 100m working at a gas station in the past ten years or whatever. I'm on the wrong profession.

Add on punitive damages for cooking the books and trying to knowingly convict a man for murder based on fraudulent evidence.

The prosecutors should honestly be in jail.

Even if he did indeed shoot TM in self-defense, he should still be able to muster up at least some basic human empathy for the family who lost their son in this tragedy. Suing the family of the boy you've shot dead is just incredibly tone-deaf.

no, him being a productive member of society without this happening isn't relevant. its not about the increase from 30k$/year living paycheck to paycheck up to like 75k to count as a "productive member". its the slide from 30k$ down to 0$.


this entire case boils down to whether or not the prosecution falsified evidence. and if they did he's owed millions of dollars, even if we all think he's guilty of a crime somewhere between assault and first degree murder.

yeah but if the family then lied about the child's life, history of violence, falsified a girlfriend to take the stand, and provided 4 year old pictures to the media?

i feel bad for the martins, i dont feel bad for zim. yet i dont see how empathy plays into violations of the 4th amendment.

It doesnt. From a legal standpoint, he is surely entitled to sue them. But as you said: what this case will really come down to is whether the prosecutors falsified evidence, not what the Martins were doing. And there wont be any notable compensation sum to be won from the Martins either, from a financial standpoint, it will also come down to GZ vs the authorities.

So him including the Martins in his lawsuit makes no real sense when you think about it, but is likely to hurt them on an emotional level, and to stoke a toxic public debate.
Again, he is entitled to sue the Martins. But it doesnt make too much sense, is completely tone-deaf and not something that a person with any basic level of human decency would do.

If Martin's mother organized the false testimony herself and the prosecutors were not liable for it, shouldn't it come down to what the Martins were doing?
The text messages / phone calls / suppressed evidence make a damning case against Fulton, but not so much against the prosecutors.
