If anything it's a propaganda opportunity for Russia to shoot down a western jet.

Its escalation, we already said last year this would happen. it is the natural evolution. From the Ukrainian perspective they dont believe they have anything to lose. Expect multiple strikes on multiple targets across Russia this year. Ukraine has been provided both long range missiles and long range strike capabilities.

Also there's a lot of reports of the Russian advances in the Robotyne salient, could be collapsing in. The maps show troops on the west, middle and east all breaking out northwards. A few videos of Russian armor driving through the heart of it and coming under fire, so its still being contested. The claim going around is 40-50% of the salient captured in the past day and Ukraine started withdrawing, but we'll have to wait and see if there's any truth to those reports, could be a bunch of bs

But robotyne is emphatically not an avdeevka, afaik there's no real fortifications much less the giant bunker complex and coke plant. Its a flat village with residential housing, the biggest building was a barn. So if the pocket is imploding it will go rapidly

Also there's some pretty wide reports from both UA and RU sides that Russia is fully taking over a series of villages to the north/east of Avdeevka, Sieverne and Lastochkyne today
it points to Russia not stopping its advance at conquering just the strongholds but now taking territory on the outskirts
Whatever line is being held in the donbas is clearly falling back significantly from the previous front

When Russia took Popasna it slowly expanded control and eventually lead to the battle of Bakhmut and we know how that turned out.

Avdiivka IMO is similar in nature to Popasna. Once the key fortification and resistance is broken, control in that sector falls pretty fast.
