Avdiivka is located in a salient which had been surrounded on three sides by Russian territory since before the start of this war. Of course they won't be able to hold it indefinitely. Remember when Russia finally took Bakhmut after 8 months of fighting? A lot of folks were talking about the great strategic significance and how this would be a major turning point in this war. Then, nothing, absolutely nothing, came out of it. It will be the same story with Avdiivka.

The general lack of ammunition on the Ukrainian side is the much bigger concern, not some Russian advances near a town which was always destined to fall.

he is against the war in Ukraine and therefore he will either be jailed or have an accident. (more precisely his position is america first and does not see the need to go warmongering around the world, which he deems (in my opinion, correctly), is not in US interests).

I think his hand will be tied. To rip the United States off from world affairs will have huge strategic backlash.
That being said, if he have someone like a Kissinger and if he is willing to listen, perhaps that might work.

Most russian air losses have been accidents or friendly fire afaik, but there's footage going around and I haven't confirmed if its even from this incident yet or being misrepresented, that would show the plane either on fire and blowing up or struck in midair. Still way too early to tell what happened, if that will ever be possible under fog of war
if it is from this plane, then it looks a lot like a friendly fire shootdown since it would be a real low altitude intercept, possibly right after takeoff
