1. The war was necessary to figure out how much territory Ukraine would lose.
2. This post is wrongly assuming that Russia's only reason to wage this war was a landgrab, when it's fairly obvious that political considerations were a major factor in Putin pulling the trigger. If Ukraine had ceded roughly the territory currently held by the Russians, would Putin have accepted the rest of Ukraine to be fully independent and sovereign, allowed them to join the EU and potentially even NATO[1]? HIGHLY doubtful...

[1] Ongoing military conflict makes NATO accession impossible, so Ukraine would not have been eligibile before Feb22 due to the ongoing, frozen conflict in the Donbass. In this scenario (shedding their southeathern territories), however, they would no longer be embroiled in ongoing wars and thus able to join NATO.

If the US had simply said no to the Ukrainian (and American) adventure (of Ukraine in Nato) there might never have been a war. It's all semantics now of course. The proverbial ship has sailed. Ceding land to Russia in exchange for Nato membership would (in my opinion) NOT have prevented this war, and would not have happened anyway. ("we are all of ukraine, we want to be in nato, and we will cede land to you, russia in order to do this") (russia: no).

It remains to be seen what happens next.

What's pathetic is your response to valid opinions. Don't you have some random Russian shithole or blown up ship/tank to spam? Stick to what you're good at mate.

I dont pay any attention to his rants anymore tbh. I mean, thats what they are right ? no intelligent argument whatsoever and all he can do is personal attack after personal attack.

Utter bollocks. Your position is one of fallacy. Don't expect to claim it is the accepted narrative and not be told otherwise.
You don't pay attention but yet you think my rebuttal is a personal attack?

Which is it?

I had a good chat during my holidays with some folks who have convinced me this war was necessary for Ukranians as a nation building experience. The country was divided before across two distinct identities that existed under USSR and had little quarrel with Russia besides the shallow "hurr, durr soviets opressed us". But "soviets" were too of a generic of a group to hate that included Ukranians themselves and you cannot build a nation around it.

This war is forging a new identity using hatred for Russia - hence abundance of absolutely braindead propaganda and requirement of tremendous suffering needed by the common folk in order to ensure generational trauma so that people that lost a brother or a father would never realign with Russia again. Hence the scuttling of a ceasefire and slow deliveries of weapons to ensure Ukraine can’t win, but has to suffer greatly. Sounds extremely cynical.

The updated script is 300k dead and the occasional peppering in of a blown up tank or ship.
