So you're off by a factor of at least 10, in practice, it's rather gonna be a factor of 20 or so because not everyone will get infected, and because the vaccinations also slow down the spread of the virus and thus help to flatten the curve even if all other covid measures were dropped.


You're also misinterpreting where I actually stand on covid. Ten months ago or so, in the coronavirus thread, I was explicitly writing that a 0.35- 0.5% IFR, which is mostly coming from old people, would be tolerable and no justification for lockdowns on its own; and that the true crux is that an unmitigated covid wave would overwhelm the healthcare system and indirectly kill plenty of non-covid patients. Imho, this threat is the only proper justification there ever was for lockdowns - and vaccinations largely eliminate this problem. Once every eligible person had a fair chance to get vaccinated (which is not yet the case here in continental Europe), all restrictions have to be dropped.

It's definitely a justification for full blown work from home, shut down restaurants.

Once the healthcare system was not overwhelmed, the regular Covid death rate was still enough to keep low risk high reward activities going, like wearing masks and working from home where possible.

But yes, my point still stands: once every eligible person had a fair chance to get vaccinated, all covid measures must be dropped and put on a purely voluntary basis, including 'mild' stuff like mask wearing. The groups who cannot get vaccinated are small and young enough that they cannot produce enough covid patients to swamp the hospitals - and if the ranks of unvaccinated without medical excuse start overwhelming the hospitals, then the idiots shall just be triaged, i.e. they get handed some sleeping pills and painkillers and are sent home to die.
