"The announcement came after Vladimir Putin inadvertently admitted that more than 300,000 Russian soldiers have died or been heavily wounded in the ongoing war. T
he figures are in stark contrast to the last death toll offered by the Kremlin, which suggested less than 6,000 troops in Ukraine had been killed."

Unreal. Then the usual suspects come here to complain about propaganda.

From your own article:

Quote
During his first news conference since the full-scale invasion, he suggested that 244,000 Russians had been mobilised, before adding that 486,000 had volunteered to fight. He then proceeded to say that 617,000 Russians were fighting in Ukraine.

This figure roughly aligns with US estimates that were declassified earlier this week, which suggested that Russia had suffered 315,000 dead and injured troops in Ukraine. But the last time the Kremlin offered an estimate of the death toll was September 2022, in which they said only 5,937 soldiers had been killed.

The upper is what he said, the lower part is dimwit conjecture. If he says that 617k Russians are fighting in Ukraine, can you explain the math that would result in coming to the conclusion that 315k died?

Tankies like Ferdia and Djunior will be very very upset

why would I be upset ? If Russia does not see this as a further act of hostility and react to it, its a great victory for Ukraine and Nato.

Could explain how from Feb 2022 - Sep 2022 the Kremlin claimed only 5,937 soldiers had been kille?

By the way, using phrases like "the walls are closing in" is precisely what dimwit conjecture is. Try not to use that phrase in your explanation.

From what I understand Russia doesn’t mind EU accession so long as Ukraine doesn’t join a military alliance. Having said that I just don’t see how Ukraine can join EU in the next decades as none of the requirements to join can be met feasibly on a reasonable timeframe and ahead of other candidates that have come much further along the path.

You are throwing pearls before the swines. Basic logical reasoning and math is not their forte.

Ok, so apparently you cant. So let me try to break it down for you.

Just because on the aggregate, the mobilized and volunteer number is higher than the soldier count that are fighting in Ukraine at a given point in time doesn't mean the difference is basically KIA. It could be for a number of reasons but here are two extremely obvious ones if you have above room temp IQ.

1. Soldiers in combat duty rotate. It ranges from military to military but active duty personnel go on tours. 3 month, 6 month 9 month, whatever. So as some go back home, retire, whatever others rotate to front lines. Additionally at this point it's approaching 2 years, so the number rotated in and out in that time span will obviously exceed the current number serving.

2. Of the volunteers and mobilized it's conceivable that not all of those people actually went into Ukraine you get this right? Armies have a ton of logistical domestic positions, recruiting, etc. That doesn't mean 100% were sent to Ukraine to combat duty. So to take aggregate number- number in Ukraine could be capturing people that never actually went there.

Of course the number is higher than 6k but the way the Independent arrived at the 'inadvertent admission' is just lol worthy. So desperate to find wins.

Really conflicted about this one. On one hand American First Lady is giving a nod of appreciation to the Russian culture and playing Russian classics this Christmas at the White House while simultaneously trying to cancel Russian culture?

On the other hand it’s such a wierd interpretation of the Nutcracker Suite? Does it belong in this thread?
