Is anyone claiming that Ukraine will come out of this war in better shape than they were going in?
On the flip side, if Ukraine doesn't eventually collapse and surrender unconditionally, this war will have been a disaster for Russia too. They already controlled Crimea and the Donbass before their invasion; NATO accession was effectively impossible. If they don't get all of Ukraine in the end, they will have fought a lengthy and extremely costly war, exposed their military as a paper tiger to the whole world, burnt through a good chunk of their Soviet era ammo and gear, pushed Ukraine even more toward the EU, and permanently alienated the best customers of their fossil exports... all just to seize control of a tiny strip of land between Crimea and Donbass. They could have built an artificial land connection to Crimea through the Kerch Strait made of pure gold for half the price tag, lol.
Very accurate assessment.
It's incredible how some posters believe that anyone who opposes Russian revisionism is automatically is in favour of war.
It's the ultimate attempt at gaslighting.
Their default worldview is that any country should roll over in the face of aggression and that countries allies should not support them but instead appease the aggressor.
These views are dangerous and those people that believe them should not be considered rational.
