White House Warns Congress Nearly ‘Out of Time’ on Ukraine Funds

“There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment,” Shalanda Young, who leads the Office of Management and Budget, wrote in a letter to congressional leaders. “We are out of money — and nearly out of time.”

Zelensky stating that Ukraine now needs to focus on building fortifications is directly related to this.

Without massive support from the combined West there's no chance for Ukraine to hold out against the Russian army let alone conduct offensive operations.

tbh its bullshit. the money spent on Ukraine by the US is a drop in the Ocean. The US Gov up to this point has repeatedly reiterated this. There are so many video's online where this is detailed. Its not that there is no money its that the US Gov is looking for an exit strategy, which is fine, they can do what they want, but what then of Ukraine? only last year Ukraine was promised a new future and now they are getting a wake up call on the value of words - which are worth less then they thought.

The US is consistently blowing the budget without even taking into account the funds they reserved for Ukraine. Sending more to Ukraine = more debt, plain and simple.

It's an election year good luck explaining ordinary Americans that the country needs to pile up more debt to fund a senseless war that can have no other outcome than a Russian victory eventually.

The current administration surely realizes this.

I always thought that "sending money to Ukraine" was majority just buying outdated tech from DOD that was produced in the 1980-1990s that was held in storage destined to be salvaged anyway (so DOD can buy new fancy toys). Or paying spec ops that conduct intelligence operations like Sattelite info or Pentagon paying for Starlink.

There is some money destined to bankroll the government and budget deficit, but majority is just old DOD tech like Stingers and ATACMS? Hence the comment that majority of US aid actually never leaves US soil in form of money.

It's only when it reaches Ukraine as goods and tech and gets sold to HAMAS or Albanians or whoever wants to buy can people get some $$$.

The fucked up part is an explanation is not even required. Politicians make these decisions regardless of what people want. It's how we end up in these endless wars that have cost the US taxpayer to the tune 10 trillion dollars over the last 25 years.

You don't really have to explain it because it largely doesn't matter which party it is, they are both mostly pro-war. There's no threat of being voted out on this issue, because the alternative is another pro-war yes-man.

I feel they use that as an excuse in order to justify sending all that kit to Ukraine (outdated / old hardware)

All of that stuff had to be refurbished and sent over including spare parts for maintenance, including training for personnel and so on. It still costs loads of money.

Yeah, but the question is - who's getting paid. I'm pretty sure US citizens are getting paid in the end.

I doubt DOD supply officers give a shit whether they move ammo or spare parts to an Abrams or F16 to Ukraine or Diego Garcia or Taiwan as long as the paycheck arrives at the end of the month.

Sure but US citizens are also paying the bill via taxes --> https://www.usdebtclock.org/

Interest on debt $691 billion and counting (military spending $830 billion to put that in perspective)
