Pyongyang demonstrated its ability to fly a ballistic missile for nearly 7,000 kilometers.
This performance upsets the geopolitical situation..

NK is a strategical plot;
Who want to get the 10T$ mineral ressources ? me
Does China want USA military bases at its fontier ? no
Does USA want to absolutely keep an hand in the area ? yes

What can happend if NK is is destroyed, do you think SK will take all the north land without being worried ? Theres a big deal out there !

What US & UN want is a thing, but the reality is another thing, and we are observing it in real time.

See, the problem is that no one really knows. NK has lied innumerable times already.
If you Google North Korean minerals....you'll get a pile of results all less than a week old.

So, back to what I was saying...NK has nothing anyone wants. They have a psycho for a leader and are building their nuclear capability.
No one has been invading them, no one is attacking them, yet they still go crazy with building nukes.

THAT is why the US is over there. As well as being there for Japan and SK.

No, you can find report about NK mineral ressources that are 2 years old here
http://www.businessinsider.com/rare-earth-mineral-reserves-were-discovered-in-north-korea--and-it-could-be-a-game-changer-2015-4?IR=T

And No ; if you read my previous post correctly theres not only the minerals but also the whole geopolitical situation;
Imagine how China would react if SK (massively allied with USA) will take over all NK (including the fantastic mineral ressources), and if US could install military bases 2.0 just at chinese fontier.

It's hot ^_^

SK is already a US ally. We still have no plans to "take" NK for their minerals, or any other export.
I don't know how many times or ways that I can say it, but the reason we are over there is that NK is building it's nukes. They promised they wouldn't at the UN, then turned right around and did it anyways.

You've heard of the UN right? You know what those letters stand for, correct?

It's the most likely outcome, because it's best one (or least damaging) to the US.

Attacking NK before they master ICBMs would still cause millions of lives, millions of dollars and probably a long guerrilla and biochemical war, followed by an even longer process of national stabilization, reconstruction and civilian relocation.

Attacking once they have the technology to strike the US would be even worse, as it would result in millions of american civilians dying from a nuclear attack.

Waiting poses few risks for the US. NK isn't stupid enough to start a war against the US, because they know they'd only be able to take out a few cities at most before their country is completely razed in a counterstrike. Perhaps NK's ICMBs might deter the US from getting involved in a new possible Korean War, effectively leaving SK screwed, but you know "America First... tough luck South Korea". America's industrial rivals of Samsung, Daewoo, Hyundai, etc probably won't lose sleep over their competition disappearing either. I mean, with this waiting policy there's the chance that NK will never do anything reckless towards SK (so nothing will be lost), and if they do start a new Korean War then the US would have a reason to stay out of it (saving millions of lives outside the peninsula, but completely condemning the millions of south koreans to a dictatorship... it's an awful gamble, but the US has done worse).

I agree that the best way out would be for SK to develop their own set of nukes. It's the only way to balance the peninsula and make sure there will be no war.

Mutually assured destruction is a nash equilibrium, one side having nukes and the other not having nukes poses the greatest risk of nukes being used!

Yeah it's a tough one and there is merit to that argument considering the uncertainty involved, but without a doubt it would be a significant human rights abuse in terms of innocents killed.

Maybe I missed it in the article, but I think an important factor in the likelihood of NK using nuclear weapons is that it is a 3rd world country which relies heavily on military posturing for its propaganda. Like Russia, they promote hatred of the West to direct attention away from the glaring failures of their own countries, so the pursuit of nuclear weapons helps to consolidate power internally and give their citizens a sense of pride. That is the main objective of the nuclear weapons program, not destroying the US, in my opinion.

As if Donald 'kill terrorist's families' Trump gives a fuck about committing human rights abuses or killing innocents.

We are over there for strategic interests and to protect our defend our allies South Korea and Japan.

I'm pretty confident though that China is really starting to get fed up with North Korea and they may decide to push the conflict in a direction of change.

China just doesn't want potentially hundreds of thousands or more North Koreans coming into their borders or is maybe hesitant to allow South Korea and North Korea to reunite creating a United Korea which could become a bigger influence of power in the region.

it's not going to become anything like south korea though, China does not want a 'good' country to border them.

People that house criminals aren't innocent. They are accessories to murder.
