What do you believe is the reason a person from Donetsk chooses to live abroad? Shouldn't they assert their rightful place within Mother Russia?
Freedom of movement really. A person from Donetsk can choose to live and work where he wants in the world.

FSB is not a secret police. It’s quite analogous to eg US FBI - investigating domestic threats - terrorists, drugs, economic crimes, cyber.

It's widely acknowledged that 90% of Russian history is marked by catastrophic events characterized by human suffering and the infringement of fundamental freedoms. Unfortunately, over the past 15 years or so, the situation has only deteriorated. Russia no longer generates or pioneers anything noteworthy; it has become a barren landscape devoid of unique offerings. It could be likened to a beta version of North Korea. Individuals possessing any proprietary skill set are actively seeking to depart the country at the earliest opportunity.
I’m afraid this is your private opinion and by far not “widely acknowledged” by the majority of the world.
Any history of any country is marked by events, some are catastrophic and cause human suffering and infringement of fundamental freedoms. Singling out Russia is intellectually dishonest and reeks of cheap propaganda.
The rest of your comment is easily debunked if one bothers to Google which areas of Russian exports have endured sanctions as neither EU not US have had the guts to cut themselves off from those pieces of Russian tech.
