God only knows the Russians think its worth it. Or at least their military leaders do.

On my own source: Russian salespeople from a European company attended a (private) meeting and simply said that the people (Russians) didn't want Putin, didn't want war, and were really afraid to speak in public.
Russia exponentially downgraded in human rights ranking in the last 10 years.

Every chance Ukraine retreats from there. The astounding point is how much material and lives the Russians are willing to pour into making nominal gains.

Iirc, the place has high strategic value to Russia since Ukraine was able to shell the airport of Donezk from there. From Ukraine's pov, it's far less valuable, at least in my personal opinion. They won't turn the tides of this war by firing at that airport and Adviivka isn't a hub for potential Ukrainian counteroffenses, or for preventing Russian advances toward Kramatorsk. As long as they can't break through in the south, holding Adviivka has mostly symbolic value to Ukraine.

But then again, what do I know...

I'd say that was fairly accurate. It would have symbolic value for either side to retain/take control of it.

Modern warfare is now under drones surveillance and it is no longer possible to proceed such operations without alerting the enemy in minutes.

Meaning that the one having ready, long range, and precise artillery, will have some kind of advantage.

Orders from those who never had to fight with the "disposable" caste...

Btw looking for intersting articles about Nepotism in russian army + lack of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-commissioned_officer consequences.

Imho both (nepotim+lack of ncos) are linked, it's obvious. I guess Ukraine partially suffered from this, but got more or less modernized.

Technically yes, but the acute battles over Bachmut "only" lasted about 5 months.
