Majority of these frozen assets in Belgium are pensions and private assets of common citizens frozen at Euroclear.

Stealing from the common Russians while allowing oligarchs and bureaucrats are free to travel and enjoy their European Chateaus?

Great success.

This is a streched equivalence. As example, Israel:
- Is not trying to destroy Europe with hybrid warfare.
- Doesn't have oligarchic system with Yachts made on the back of its citizen.

The common Russians are complicit in Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine. Many Oligarchs have been sanctioned in the West. Many more should be, that I can agree with you on.
The Russian people themselves have allowed oligarchs to pilfer their state for decades. So its a pretty moot angle that your making.

On one hand some people deride the West, (and when they say the West they actually mean NATO) for expanding into what they consider is historical Russian territory.
But on the other hand they deride the West for not acting against all of the Russian oligarchs, or adversely affecting everyday Russians. Not saying that you are doing this, but its a consistent theme.

It shouldn't be the Wests responsibility in the first place to sanction and punish Russian oligarchs. Unfortunately while the common Russians remain apathetic and complicit in enabling their oligarch exploiters, then they will have to accept the effects of the West using sanctions.

I actually think its a potentially damaging move to extract the frozen Russian funds in this way. Although I do believe it would be justified.
It could serve as very bad propaganda in Russia's favour; Equally it could act as a deterrent to other state actors.

"
A massive mobilization
Without waiting for the final results, Donald Tusk claimed victory. “This is the end of this dark period, This is the end of the reign of PiS,” declared Sunday evening the former Prime Minister who could therefore, in a few weeks, lead the government again.
In Warsaw, Poles voted overwhelmingly for the opposition. In the streets of the capital, voters appear satisfied, even relieved. This is the case of Barbara, head chef in a restaurant. "I'm really happy because it's the end of eight disastrous years. People think that in Poland we are closed, misogynistic, racist, but that's not true!, exclaims the thirty-year-old. Now we wait for the changes."
This election was marked by a record level of participation: nearly 73% of voters went to the polls, or 11 points more than in 2019 -Largest since 1989-. Young people voted massively, especially young women. The majority of them mobilized against PiS, which considerably reduced the right to abortion in 2021.

The PiS overdid their shtick in recent times, so I can't say I'm surprised. Time will tell if Poland is better off with this new government - how much Tusk will bend over to Brussels, how far he will roll back the lefty welfare policy of the PiS which has lifted millions of Poles out of poverty, if he will accept a resettlement of muslim and african asylum seekers to Poland, how far his support for Ukraine will go, etc.

ISW: Russia tones down rhetoric about Avdiivka offensive

Russian President Vladimir Putin may be trying to temper expectations of significant Russian advances around Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast.
The Russian information space writ large is also metering its initial optimism about the prospects of Russian offensive operations around Avdiivka.
Russian forces continued offensive operations aimed at encircling Avdiivka on October 15 but have yet to make further gains amid a likely decreasing tempo of Russian operations in the area.
Russian forces will likely continue offensive operations at this decreased tempo in the near term, however, and will remain a threat to Ukrainian forces in the area despite being unlikely to achieve a decisive breakthrough or encircle Avdiivka at this time.
A prominent Russian milblogger and frontline unit commander complained that Russian military leadership is uninterested in battalion level problems, supplementing other Russian milblogger complaints about general problems in the Russian military.
Ukrainian forces continued offensive operations near Bakhmut and in western Zaporizhia Oblast on October 15 and slightly advanced south of Bakhmut.
Russian forces conducted offensive operations along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, near Bakhmut, along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line, in the Donetsk-Zaporizhia Oblast border area, and in western Zaporizhia Oblast on October 15 and advanced in some areas.
A Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces have “significant” reserves comprised of new divisions currently located in rear areas, though these formations are highly unlikely to be fully staffed at this time.
The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) is sending a reportedly Kremlin-affiliated priest to Crimea, likely as part of continued Russian efforts to persecute religious communities in occupied Ukraine.

60 tanks in the ass.
