Yes, and the situation is very unfair for Ukraine: Finland or/and Sweden may obtain the membership during the war... Sad
My bad btw; Democracies have hard time to declare war if not attacked directly and if no alliance treaty exists with the attacked one.
agree with that, but also there are caveats when it comes to superpowers (for instance re: America and Kuwait).
I am not convinced that democratically elected governments are able to working thing out. There is ample evidence in history to refute this.
Re: Finland, my view here is that Nato would be very ambitious (dare i say reckless) and completely disregarding the current regional war if they were to give Finland membership status now, and if i have to be the dissenting voice, I would also say that finland is walking into the same trap that ukraine and georgia walked into. i.e. by seeking to avert disaster they are taking steps that unfortunately encourage disaster and escalate the current situation. When more and more players become involved it becomes easier and easier for things to spiral dreadfully. If i was finland i would wait a few years before entertaining notions of nato (as previously stated, wait until putin is gone and russia does not have a hard on). why would russia invade finland if not provoked ? it makes no sense to me.
