Russia has spent so much, just to hold a couple small cities (Soledar and Bakhmut) which are now bombed out shells with no strategic value. Total Russia victory is unlikely.

Putin threatens nuclear use, and nato calla his bluff. A nuclear bomb used in Ukraine would only strengthen the peoples resolve even more, with end result being the destruction of Moscow.
Do you really believe Russia has spent the money necessary on maintenance for those cold war relics?
Nuclear fallout from Ukraine would head where? Russia.

Russia is now relying on help from other puppet countries like Belarus, Iran and North Korea.
