My understanding is that he views Hungary as being an evil communist country filled with "Orc's", on the basis that Hungary is sitting on the fence ( which that article compliments Hungary on ) rather then taking sides against the evil forces of the Dark Lord Sauron. While it is true that Hungary was communist this was some time ago. anyway, my understanding of his position is that its a case of if you are not with us you are against us. This includes those countries, and people, that are by standers. no bystanders allowed. Pretty much sums the ideology of several ppl in this thread.
Thats not an accurate description. Hungary is not sitting on the fence, Hungary can no longer even see the fence.
"With around 80 percent of its natural gas and 65 percent of oil coming from Russia, Hungary does have genuine supply concerns, but Orban has been deliberately increasing his dependency on Russian energy for years despite saying his country would work to wean itself off excessive reliance on Russian gas as late as 2018. In 2014,
Budapest struck a controversial deal with Moscow to expand the country’s Paks Nuclear Power Plant, an agreement that was shrouded in secrecy and not put out to tender.
Orban’s courtship also appears linked to a desire to protect Hungarian assets in Russia, especially those linked to the MOL Group, the country’s leading oil and gas company, and the OTP bank, both of which are run by wealthy Hungarians sympathetic to Fidesz. When French car manufacturer Renault departed from Russia, it had to sell its holdings in a Russian car company for a symbolic, and worthless, 1 ruble."
If Merkel overexposed the German economy to an authoritarian Russia, which she undoubtedly did; Then Orban has gone a step further. Putting his political priorities first and essentially making Hungary a vassal of Russia while Orban is in power.
A similar fate could befall Austria. Kremlin slush money still flows to right wing opposition parties there.
