"Infringing on parental rights"? You see, it's this sort of things from you that makes me not want to engage you. There was absolutely no need to put a spin on it. Anyway, to answer: parents already don't have complete freedom/rights over what they can expose their children to. For example, they can't give alcohol to their underaged children. I know that drag story hour isn't against the law (yet), however if people feel that it's inappropriate, then they can work on getting it banned by law, which is what some people are doing. It's how democracy works.

this is one of your most insane posts, which says a lot coming from you. you seem deeply conflicted and full of self-hatred

But that is what your position is, an infringement of parental rights. Parents are choosing to take their kids to Drag Story Hour, but because you take personal issue with it you believe that Drag Story Hour should be banned.

If parents are giving a 5-year old alcohol to drink, and I try to stop it, am I "infringing on parental rights"?

Yes, and so we justify the restriction. Your justification for banning Drag Story Hour is porous.

It's "porous" to you because you are biased towards drag queens. Normal people like me don't want them reading books to kids. Sorry but you simply need to deal with this.

I am not saying that he's right or that leftist=democrat. I was just trying to show that he was using US-specific terms, which can mean something quite different to a European.

Yes, many different cultures skew what political definitions mean. That doesn't make them any less wrong though.

The main point was that the quote I was initially speaking to, was making silly generalizations about what he perceives to be what people say politically defined words mean, as if the concept itself is some sort of new buzzword type phenomenon.

That type of think is very very common within right wing ideological think spaces in the real world, and online. It is not reality.

Definitions can't be wrong. They are subjective. You can say in this area of the world definition A is accepted and in that other area, definition B is accepted. It doesn't mean one of them is wrong.

"Don't want this" is not a valid reason to restrict parental freedom.

It is.

"We don't want murder" is a valid reason to restrict people's bodily freedom.

Well no, there are justifications for all things that we impose limitations, restrictions, and boundaries around--including murder. It is a cornerstone of law for the State to need to establish a "compelling interest" for anything that would result in restriction.
