I mean it’s extremely awkward for German govt as they desperately tried to play this diplomatic and if it turns out the govt they are supporting has caused them hundreds of billions of damages (infrastructure, kfw bailouts, economy sinking, BASF/Uniper etc) this is truly going to be tough for Olaf and Annalena to spin this and survive in politics.

If it gets that far they can just say it was a group of extremists acting on their own, Zelensky is doing everything he can to track them down and charge them etc etc

In modern politics consequences for bad actions are minimal. A few hundred people can essentially waste 20 trillion dollars (the wars and Covid spending) and essentially irreparably damage the purchasing power of tens of millions of people, saddling the next generations with huge amounts of debt and there's no consequences.

Even if they don't survive, so what? They're still rich, their kids will be reach and setup. Meanwhile millions of people just have to face higher taxes, lower wage growth, etc. I talked to my cousin that lives in west Germany and he's telling me taxes keep going up and up. Nothing ever happens to hold these people really accountable, let alone reverse any of the damage.
