Surovikin was rumored to have conspired with the Wagner insurrectionists, so leadership couldn't trust his loyalty anymore. Shoigu's big trump card is that he's the personification of mediocrity and thus not threatening any of the true power players within Russia. In the hands of any person who's cunning, ambitious and competent, the position of head of MoD would automatically be one of the most powerful in all of Russia and a potential threat to Putin.

Lol this genuinely sounds like fan fiction

let's just call it what it is: the reason shoigu isn't a threat to pootin and other "true power players" is his asian descent. in russia that means he would never really be considered or accepted as the one guy in charge. surely one of the main reasons pootin hand-picked him for the job - because you're spot on about it being the prime position to challenge the president in theory.

his loyalty might be considered a weakness, a "lack of ambition" by some, but it's the key to his political longevity, and if rumours are correct, his considerable personal fortune. that doesn't necessarily mean he's utterly mediocre and incompetent though. from what i've read, he seems to be a very intelligent and calculating person.

Not fan fiction, lol. Putin's grip on power isn't as tight as previously thought, evidenced by the tens of thousands of armed insurrectionists which were marching on Moscow just 2 months ago. The turmoil and power struggle within Russia's military also can't be denied. And during the Wagner rebellion, there were multiple reports saying Surovikin was supposed to take over the military leadership if the Wagnerites were successful, so that's also not something I made up out of thin air.

Putin is not the problem. There are hundreds if not thousands of officials who agree with him and would continue the attack without him. The problem is NATO. Only respecting Russia and it's legitimate concerns will end the conflict. No matter who is in charge, Russia is not going to let NATO win.

Ukraine lost control of the Sinkovka village but Russians don't control it fully either. For now, Russians are trying to occupy the entire eastern bank of the Oskol river and the eastern heights of Kupyansk ( Washington Street Journal is the source). At the same time, Ukrainians bared western journalists to inform about that region (no access). Very strange, isn't it?

Journalists always have restricted access to the front lines, the risk of spying (of that the journalist get himself spyed) is pretty big and above all: Ukraine will not send them 15 years in jail for fake news (Yep, Russians do this: 15 years).
Very Strange.

Regarding Sinkovka situation didn't change since 20 days - AT LEAST - but more important:
Very Strange.

From yesterday:

Russian sources lied about capturing Synkivka
On Kupyansk front, today Russian sources continued to publish more fake news about the situation
north-east of the front near the village of Synkivka.
Russian sources published this video where, according to them, Russian forces had already
captured Synkivka and were traveling through the streets of the village.
A few minutes later it turned out that the video was actually from Severdodonetsk, over
100 kilometers south-east of the initially reported area.

Very Strange.
