My wife was at a friends house to watch the 2nd debate, and came home and said "what about that one crazy guy that wants to give everyone $1000 *lol*...."

now i've never hit a woman in anger, unlucky for her i wasnt angry, just disappointed.

so i did exactly what Andrew "the chosen one (thousand)" Yang would want me to do. And i hit her, with knowledge.

you just made the list for the YangGang drive by team. Watch out because we know where you live, and your mailbox is going to be flooded with pamphlets.

Yang pulled out of a Soho Forum debate on UBI amid concerns his opponent was too knowledgeable on the subject and too much of a challenge.
Being crushed in a debate on his key issue would have hindered his already failing campaign.

i mean, while Yang's UBI plan is overzealous and less than perfectly fleshed out, it's still a far more coherent plan than any other person on the Democratic ticket has for anything. Unless you include far more pie in the sky type bullshit like medicare for all, which Bernie has worked out in some details but not at all in the tax burden required to run it. i look forward to seeing what, if any, explanation Yang gives for backing out. it was a ticket buying event, so it would be scummy to just back out willy nilly. it wasn't smart to enter in the debate in the first place. someone can "debunk" his program from a mathematical perspective by taking his political rhetoric literally and his only recourse would be to admit he's exaggerating on promises of 1k$/month. it would be like Warren doing a full debate on student loan debt forgiveness, she'd get roasted. politics should debate politics.

what makes you think that his campaign is failing?

realistically, his campaign was never about winning, about becoming the Democratic nominee.
his campaign was about 1.) raising his profile and 2.) bringing attention to the issue of automation, which Yang feels like a huge and overlooked threat to the American way of life.

also, a paradigm shift as massive as UBI cannot possibly gain traction with voters, or be implemented successfully, over night. it needs time to seep into the minds of the voters, it needs time for experts to meticulously think it through before implementing it. by bringing attenton to this issue 4-10 years before it would have become accute, he has bought the country valuable time.

this. even if Yang's entire run ends up with nothing more than a senate panel on Automation it will be worth it.

his mistake is starting off with UBI for all, even though it's led to a lot of attention. he'd be far better off pitching UBI as a concept for displaced working populations with few employment prospects (something that would have won HRC the 2016 election), coal miners, auto workers, etc. Then slowly rolling the success of that until UBI for all once it's more direly needed. realistically we still have 50 or so years before unskilled labor becomes extinct. what happens to the worse off in the mean time is most important.
