Yes, the people who say "Russia is winning" are ignoring the colossal cost incurred on the Russian economy. But the opposite is certainly true, this conflict has placed enormous stress on Ukraine, such that they certainly cannot win and are going to need to negotiate a peaceful end to this conflict.

Russia is shooting itself in the foot, no matter the angle. The costs that arise from having a tarnished by war neighbor next to you are/will be incurred mostly by Russia due to conflict taking place on its doorstep. Much less so by Poland and EU countries.
They are selling their oil (which is their main commodity) for $65 now compared to $88 before the war. The market they are selling to is just a fraction of what EU market was, "energy drink effect" to due short-term spike last year, will wear off and once it does crash is inevitable. And for what? To capture some ruins that they will have to spend hundreds of billions to rebuild and maintain? While 70% of Russian plebs live in third world conditions already?

We've spent ~10 trillion dollars between Afghanistan, Syria and Iraq and what exactly do we have to show for it?

Hard to say the aggregate impact on Russia's economy but it's somewhere in the hundreds of billions most likely, maybe with time it will reach the trillion mark, maybe more, we'll never know the true number but If they come away with 15-20% of Ukraine's most resource rich land (which the Donbass is) something the size of England, was one trillion or 2 worth it? Idk, but it's sure a better investment than our conquests.
