Yes but this will mean at least another year of needless deaths, demoralized civilians, slaughtered youths and babushkas freezing to death in bombed out apartments.

I doubt it’s realistic to expect that Russians will just fuck off to whence they came.

What’s the realpolitik play to resolve this asap?

pretty much that. Ukraine went into this war knowing full well that they would lose the war. They might have assumed that they were in a better position then they thought with Western Support, but only the most die hard of them will not have tempered their outlook to the pre-war position (whereby the belief is that it will take 2-3 wars to resolve the conflict). I take all that from the video posted back in 2017 by the Ukrainian Government.

In order to "resolve" this war, there would need to be a ceasefire. I dont know who is controlling the war at this point, the US or Ukraine. The US needs to change its mind about the war and as yet there is no evidence to suggest that this will happen. Ukraine needs to change its mind about the war and there is no evidence to suggest this will happen anytime soon either.

New leadership in the US or New Leadership in Ukraine or New Leadership in Russia would be needed at this point to end the war.

, ,

The sad thing is the Russians are put into a position that they cannot win and cannot lose either.

The realpolitk play to resolve this issue is for them to draw a line aka 38th parallel and proceed for a Cold Peace.
It will need the EU , China , India to sit Ukraine and Nato /USA down for negotiation with lesser influential players like Saudi and Israel to help negotiate on the side.

Maybe that is the most realistic part. But at the end of the day, it is always the Egoism of great powers that will curtail the progress.

EU , Saudi and Israel can work on the USA / Ukraine side to de escalate.
India , China can work on the Russia side to de escalate.

But this might have to wait for the outcome of the next USA election next year. So another year of meat grinding for both sides.

What is your definition of this in this instance, noting multiple things are happening right now.

The War in Ukraine ?
The Restart of a cold war with Russia ?
The heightening of tensions between the East and West ?

Cold War 2.0 already started for a while. The Peak is still quite some time away. But it already started.

The war isn't exactly "winnable" by the Ukraine/West.

All Russia has to do is wait. They don't need to try to push in further than they already are. They can simply wait for the West to run out of money or wait for civil discontentment against funding the war, then push in further if they want to.

Just my pragmatic view of the situation. The West has relatively more expenses than Russia does.

The best outcome for Ukraine is to sue for peace and agree to new borders along the current zones of occupation. Then, they can focus on strengthening these borders along with fixing their government/corruption enough to be able to possibly join NATO

inb4 fenderp or meanwhile will reply with their "pooootin will attack them again" nonsense

ukraine at this point can only look for a peace that will solve all border disputes to quickly join NATO

then whatever new border there is will be the new line nobody is going to cross

unfortunately the geopolitics guys in washington have other plans

They will have to lose a huge chunk of land and territories in order to do that.
Not viable at the moment. The nationalist and Hawks might just kill Zelensky and do something silly, setting off biological weapons in Russia which might create a crisis that will escalate into a small controlled nuclear incident.

And if that happens the Ukrainian nationalist might resent the United States and Nato to a point where 30 years down the road , you will have another 9/11 in USA or in Europe .

Ukraine went into this war when Russia rolled a thousand tanks across its border.

Literally spewing false narratives daily. What a disgrace.

Truth doesn't matter when you are openly supporting dictatorships as a reasonable alternative to the current western dominance. ^_^
In the same way: Criticizing Western media all the time until they pickup the One article arranging their silly narrative.

NATO countries invade Iraq, "we don't like this, imperialists!"
Russia invades Ukraine, "They deserved it"

Utter clowns.
