And now try to justify how the US has more people locked up per capita than any country in all human history. Rather be Russian than American. In Russia you go to jail for annoying the politicians, an avoidable scenario. In America you just go to jail. No avoidance possible, just hope it doesn't happen to you.

Yesterday i said "Russia is barbaric" in a reaction regarding the fate of their political prisonners getting poisoned, assassinated, tortured... (weee)

Yet I would like to tune down this word with this explanation:

In 1857, out of more than 62.5 million inhabitants of the Russian Empire, 23.1 million had the status of serf.
Excerpts from the Russian Code
- Land serfs (State/private) are considered property accessories.
- Military serfs and private servants are assimilated to furniture.
- Rights and duties of the masters: The master, who can only be a noble Russian Orthodox Christian, can sell, rent, pledge or give in succession, and in general, take advantage of the work of his serfs, as he sees fit. seems, but as a good Christian (LOOOOL) and within the framework of the oukaze of April 5, 1797.
This represents the law at the time of emancipation. Previously, for several centuries, the "serfs" were subject to sale without land and were therefore rather slaves. This can be seen, for example, in "Dead Souls" by Nikolai Gogol, which deals with the trade in serfs.
This status was followed by Russian revolution, 100 years of crushing soviet union which frozen the culture, killing or banishing intellectuals.

Their own people, their own kind, and in such proportions... This is an exception in the recent history of humanity.
IMHO let's not underestimate the love and desire for sacrifice they have for their masters. Explains alot about the national sport: Shrugging shoulders. Honestly It's just depressing and I wish they manage to liberate themselves at some point.

Because U.S has the money of advanced country while having a large population of third world level, meaning they have alot and can afford to jail alot.
This said US does not represent EU values and systematically doing straight comparisons with US while ignoring EU status is pretty much another way to dodge.

Btw Incarceration rate:

The US is completely unpopulated compared to China and India your argument is nonsense and your pictures prove me right. Try again.

Imho you have several variables:

- Repression, increasing rate
- Massive corruption, probably decreasing rate
- High law standards, increasing rate
- Poverty, diminishing prison rate while increasing the criminal population eventually (double effect)
- Maybe others, transverse, factors, like relative inequality rate (whatever the country is poor or not)

In India gang rape on student are hardly jailed and it's a much mediatized problem actually, remember ?

I think your quick conclusions on U.S only are simpleton tactics and you just lost this fight.

Try to figure out something else if you want to create a diversion from main topic: The russian invasion of Ukraine.

India's problems aren't the question the US is. Why does the US throw more people in jail THAN ANY COUNTRY IN HUMAN HISTORY?

here let me help you:

A 22-year-old man in Alabama was sentenced to life in prison in the 1980s after he stole about $50 from a bakery. After more than three decades behind bars, he is now set to walk free.
The U.S. is the only country in the world where kids as young as 13 have been sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
Some 4,500 children are housed in adult jails and prisons on any given day in America.

TLDR: https://www.fairfightinitiative.org/the-history-causes-and-facts-on-mass-incarceration/ The U.S. prison population increased 500 percent in the past 40 years. Crime rates haven't increased proportionately in that same time. Instead, the dramatic increase in prison populations can be directly tied to law and policy changes that are directly tied to the oversized role of race and racism in America.

Since someone likes ranting about China so much ~

Size of US: 9.834 million km², Population of the United States: 331 Million. Number of People in Prison: 1.68M
Size of China: 9.597 million km², Population of China: 1.4 Billion. Number of People in Prison: 1.70M
i.e. the US is bigger then China, has less then a quarter the population but has equal amount of people in jail.

Because some US jail system is privatized. Furthermore it is amazing that there are individuals who loves to compare a first world, seemingly civilized , democratic, defender of human rights country to third world developing ones only when statistics favor the narrative.

That is so depressing and I suspect you only have the cherry on top covered here. I have a dozen or so close American friends and almost every single one of them has spent time in jail. Not because they murdered or raped or even beat anyone up but because of drugs that aren't even as strong as alcohol. Drugs some of them never even used they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

If their last name is Biden, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad. They can even snort some cocaine in the White House.
