The shooter first grabbed at his mace then got bitch slapped. The shooter in this case began the physical altercation
As per the pictures, the victim was clearly backing up as he was shot. The sequence showing his feet in relation to the brickwork makes it clear he was moving back
Not that any of that analysis is relevant.
Self defense requires perceiving a deadly threat. Nobody at that incident was presenting a deadly threat to a reasonable observer, getting pepper sprayed or slapped when police are ten feet away isn't grounds to shoot someone.
These rallies and protests have left-wing and right-wing hooligans pepper spraying each other aggressively
all the damn time. Imagine a world where every little shove or thrown soup can or pepper spray was grounds to shoot someone in the head.
That's a contrast to the Kyle Rittenhouse example, which was preceded by someone else opening fire with a gun and someone jumping him and wrestling for control of the gun, bashing him with a blunt object while he's already on the ground and trying to shoot him with a handgun.
And it also contrasts with say the Trayvon/Zimmerman example, where Trayvon was unarmed but he had already smashed Zimmerman's head into the ground and was beating the shit out of him before he got shot.
The pictures here don't even make clear who was being the aggressor and who was reacting- it could have been either way. But they do make clear that one party was unarmed and not using any serious force or posing any deadly threat, while the other drew a gun and shot him
