significant update to the story

apparently the shooter was a security guard for local media, who shot and killed a patriot rally protester
the moment of the shooting was captured by other local media who were eyewitnesses

https://i.imgur.com/2XduYmG.jpg

The shooter was a security guard for 9News of Denver, and both he and another 9News employee were taken into custody
The victim was one of the Patriot Rally attendees
The shooting took place just as Patriot Rally attendees were walking down a street and being pelted with soup cans by Antifa, and there was some argument which the journalists and/or guard may have taken part in
The police think the shooter has no connection to Antifa, but that apparently means insofar as he was there with the media, not the antifa ralliers, but in the past that line has been thin or nonexistent so I'd take that with a grain of salt

At any rate, it appears that the media murdered a protester

so the media is now using peaceful protests as a guise to execute people they disagree with???

why is the media hiring private security for peaceful protests?

On the contrary, there seems to be at least two big camps of gun culture in the US. The very responsible owners, whom you would probably never knew owned a gun that you refer to, and then the ultra-materialist gun owners. The kind who obsess about them, mod them, join a militia, pump up their national pride, carry high powered rifles at political events, studies the stand-your-ground law so they are ready to murder. Basically, gun owners looking for a target, vs gun owners looking for a tool to stay safe.

Just wondering if having a family/wife/child would change your view on owning a gun? For me, we got a rifle once we moved out to the country. Something to ward off nuisance animals and would-be robber for 15-20 until real authority comes.

Bolded: I'm triggered. /s

I can't say for certain, but can only guess that having a kid wouldn't really be a big, relevant factor for me either way in and of itself. Kid or no kid, I think my perception of the safety of the area I live in would be the big piece. I've been fortunate that I've found affordable housing in various places I've lived in areas that felt safe. I didn't own a gun when I lived in Albuquerque, but there was a section of town affectionately referred to as "The War Zone". Don't know how I would have felt if my apartment had been there instead.

I'm actually 5'9". The most optimal height. The perfect balance for peak strength, aerodynamics, and dexterity.
