Russian foreign minister, Lavrov, was unusually harsh about f 16 airplaine deliveries. He said from Russian POV, any such plane could carry nuclear warheads. They'll regard them as airplanes capable of launching nuclear warheads, that's why the response to any rocket heading towards mainland Russia is going to be with extreme prejudice. He wasn't joking at all. Usually, Medvedew is the clown who threatens but Lavrov means business.

Obviously Russia wants to prevent Ukraine becoming a NATO member --> continue the war until Ukraine is completely defeated.


And you forgot to explain what happened to the great Ukrainian counteroffensive that was going to break through all the way to Crimea --> now you're cheering about Ukraine taking back a few miles of land in the security zone?

And yet, they have not created a master alliance and encroached outside of their sphere of influence as blatantly as we have. Putin wanted a negotiated peace deal relating to Crimea and Eastern Ukraine. He thought a push on Kyiv with limited forces would get the job done. He was wrong. The fact remains that Russia has not shown an inclination to take control of all of Ukraine, but this does not mean that he won't change his mind. Ultimately for Russia to win it looks like Zelensky has to go. If Russia tries to take over all of Ukraine and have Russian troops of the border of Poland, I believe we will be in WW3 territory. In this regard I believe Putin is showing a degree of sense.

if Russia simply holds what it has, it will retain a tactical advantage, and the war wont exponentially escalate via a threat of an invasion of the rest of Europe. When the war escalates it will be either via a push on Kyiv (again) or some other trigger (long range missiles, new types of military equipment provided, the nuclear power plant, etc etc).

understand that the Russian strategy I outlined above, is stupid, and will just prolong the war.

Better negotiating position
They tried to negotiate two years ago, Johnson & Co. were of a different opinion. No way, Russia is going to accept a peace agreement without huge leverage. The west has to support Ukraine until it collapses as a state for them to have a better negotiating position when the time will come. I am afraid there is no alternative for us except for supporting Ukraine. Biden however might drop Ukraine sooner due to the looming elections. He can't have Ukraine's counter-offensive failure associated with his name.

They currently are mining their trenches and do a fake retreat, then perform an artillery strike. The most recent video is even more bloody than infamous "Long John Silver's Squad".
