Germany declared war on the US because the US supplied and helped the UK.
To think that we aren’t at risk of being pushed into full scale war with potential nukes being used just because we don’t have boots on the ground is dumb as we are sending hundreds of billions in hardware, providing intelligence, fuel, etc. Of course it’s a risk and why most of us are against this war.
Both Germany and Japan's declarations of war against the US came after we consciously maneuvered them into positions where they had no choice but to declare war on us, because we were so active in trying to oppose their war effort strategically. All while at home the politicians who knew they were getting us into the war, proudly campaigned on a message that they would not get us into the war. I think we both know the most obvious example of that.
Even if we're still a ways off from a risk of an actual world war 3 escalation, that risk absolutely exists and could flare up out of a major incident like a nuclear escalation, and even if it doesn't, we've completely destabilized the world and ended any notion of pax americana, undermined our petrodollar hegemony and aligned a lot of the world against us. All the cost none of the benefit. We're not stopping herr hitler from rampaging across Europe, Russia poses no threat of expanding its sphere of influence beyond the sphere we just stole from it by force, yet we're willing to jeopardize our entire empire to bleed them. Unsuccessfully.
