i understand that, i just don't think it's wise to accept even parts of their fake narrative, because they will act like that's the truth then, and build their narrative from there, taking inch by inch. call out the bullshit where it starts. they can fool themselves, but they should not be allowed to misinform others with their propaganda unopposed. that's how pootin's trolls and the useful idiots who do it for free make progress...

Youre probably right, but this is a forum so i also do things for my own personal amusement and it helps me develop a stronger talking point in places where it matters. Its good to know how those who oppose your opinion think, because youre familiar with the common rebuttals.

This is well said.

You dont need the common rebuttals, or rebuttals at all, its just helpful to understand that people have different views, and they arrived at those views via different journeys and experiences.

I worked in germany for two years much to my mothers displeasure. It was only after I sat down and talked to her about it that she told me how her father was killed by the germans in WW2. context.

The cold war between the West and Russia is more recent and it is very easy to deplore Russia while holding the West up as a bastion of peace, prosperity and growth. I did however post a very good video only the other day from rory stewart (again now in case ppl missed it), and several recent video's have been posted which outline that the world is not black and white, goodies and baddies. (alot of) people do bad things. you have to be very careful when you label a person or country "good" or "bad" and the ideals of the west have gone down a bumpy road. I ever see people as grey, not good or bad, just people, that do good and bad things.

The views of the people are helpful, but ultimately what matters are the things we can measure objectively. No matter how understandable the Russian layman point of view is, there are still things that, when observed from the outside, are objectively bad or worse and i would still argue the West is less bad in almost all of these aspects. It's more of a black and grey type of situation rather than just shades of grey.

I believe we live in an infinite shade of grey. I don't subscribe to black and white, but I accept I may be a minority of this view. some closer to black and white ? sure. What I would say is that, broadly, the West is more prosperous, more open, there are better opportunities, better standards of living, less fear of starvation, oppression, freedom of expression, more freedoms, more rights, education, healthcare, etc etc etc etc. But to say that Russia, or Putin, is the bad guy, [ i.e. black ] and that there are absolutely no contributing factors, no redeeming qualities, no rationale or explanation other then that the word is "evil" attributed to them/him/it, is a very narrow view, which i cant subscribe to.
