That's not that easy. If Russia goes out of it's way to flatten western Ukraine like Iraq and to destroy all of the infrastructure, they're going to win short term but lose out big time long term. There'll never be peace on that border, guerilla wars for years etc. Lots of terror acts in Russia, imagine ISIS after the political/ social structures were destroyed in Iraq.
Better way is to hold peace talks with ALL of the interested parties for the long term solution. It's going to happen once Ukraine exhausts all of its conventional fire power and is forced to hold peace talks.
This is why the US "loses" all of its wars called "interventions". They never pay attention to the region, the surroundings and the conflict of interest to develop a long term plan. They bring "western democracy" instead peoole who aren't ready.
