Russia had around 6 months to dig in since most offensive operation stopped. Ukraine is attacking across flat terrain with little cover.
Did you expect it would be a blitzkrieg without any losses?
To put it in context Russia has likely lost in excess of 10,000 military vehicles in Ukraine. Don't organize the victory parade just yet!

What "doesn't look good" is the self identified second strongest military in the world, taking 18 months to fail to conquer a country only <500 miles from its own capital, across flat terrain, with overwhelming advantage in resource.

And then you post a meme of Ukrainian losses as if this is in some way a victory for Russia. That. Doesn't look good.

But if in the Russian culture that is considered a victory, thankfully Russia's demographic has been destroyed by the fall of the USSR and Putin's latest Russo-suicide.
Because going forward we don't need such low level thinking being part of humanities gene pool.

Nothing unexpected has happened here. But keep cheerleading for the occupiers, I heard its a hot new look.

Instead of a 10 day operation, Russia got a 5-10 year open war and probably 10-20 year insurgency and constant border conflict.

Roll out the victory banners though and square it off as a win comrades

I am not cheerleading for the occupiers. I just think neither side can win without a clear numerical and material superiority. As of now, I don't see how any side could get the upper hand. After the results of the "offense", I'd start peace talks unless you're a big fan of young people dying for no reason.

You'd start peace talks because you have no flesh in the game. The counteroffensive could never accomplish an end to the war.
It could makes things extremely difficult for Russia in Crimea and domestically if things go badly for them. When I say badly, I mean even worse.

Soviet Afghan war lasted 10 years and Russia had 15,000 dead soldiers.
In 18 months in Ukraine, Russia could have 40,000 dead soldiers already.
