Yes, yes it does apply. Genocide can be committed against a nation. Ukraine is a nation.

This is not challenging stuff, what are you failing to grasp? And why?
It is as clear as day, why would you seek to deny it? As if its disrespectful of victims of previous genocides to point out a genocide that is currently occurring. It is not.

The point is that genocide is a word that has meaning.

Genocide is a terrible, terrible thing. When people start calling everything genocide, when it isn't genocide, it cheapens the word. It is the same moral as the Boy Who Cried Wolf. If people cry genocide at things that are not genocide, when a real genocide happens and people rightfully call it genocide, no one will believe them.

has pointed out, people have already done this with the word Nazi and that no longer has any meaning. Everyone who you don't like is a Nazi.

This is common sense.

It might be worthwhile to point out that right wingers are literally defending nazis at this point, so maybe instead of complaining that we diluted the word ask why we saw it coming
