Noting the ramifications of what you said - I am only glad Russia is not as warlike as the US is. but its clear the war will escalate.

In peacetime and at a stable status quo Russia has predictably and reliably matched every tit with a tat, reciprocal aggressions and sanctions and arrests and so on. Hillary meddled in Putin's election, Putin meddled in hers, etc etc. There's just no precedent for escalation like this, war on the mainland and the risk of spiralling an already hot war into nuclear conflict. Not the Cuban Missile Crisis nor Afghan War really equate.

So I think we're in a real unknown territory and can't easily predict what will happen. The seemingly most likely outcome still hinges upon a collapse of hostilities and a peace treaty to enshrine the status quo. As long as we keep escalating that won't happen.

There is simply no narrative advocating peace. At all. All attempts by anyone in the west to advocate peace is shut down / shut out. It boggles the mind.

I am not sure if I agree with the quote that Russia is not as warlike as compared to the United States. It is a nuclear superpower after all that will surely wants her surrounding neighbours to be submissive to her.
In Lee Kuan Yew's famous words describing another country. If she can , why not ? that was used to describe China and her global ambitions for influence and I can apply it to Russia as well and the United States who holds the current position of global dominance.
But then again , how far will they try to cement their global ambitions ? That will be the key.

In Dr Mahathir's ( Former and longest serving Prime Minister of Malaysia), They came for a thousand years, they traded, they left. USA had her Monroe doctrine and Russia had her own Monroe Doctrine during the ideological struggle between USA and the West against the Soviet and Warsaw Pact.
We cannot predict exactly what will happen in the future, but we can look towards their past and make a probable assumption. Their culture also plays a very important part . It is harder to describe the US since they don't exactly have a culture but a national identity instead.

34 years ago in China, a student stopped a tank in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The democratic uprising had ended in a bloodbath, with tanks crushing peaceful protesters. On this commemoration day, the Beijing government has banned all demonstrations, including in Hong Kong.
On June 4, 1989, more than 1,000 people fell under the bullets of the army. For thirty years, every year, thousands of Hong Kongers have gathered to remember it. Since 2020, these events are prohibited.
