Category A, B, C and D. A means you may chose wherever you want to go, B means someone would chose for you. C means you are currently unfit for the service. D means you are disabled.

1: elite/commando and all specialized (artillery, vehicles, snipers etc)
2: assault: experienced soldiers, valuable, small losses.
3: trench: more disposable soldiers, less experience. They have to dig eventually.
4: meat send just before the assault to bait the enemy and know its location.

Or something very close to this model. I would definitely avoid 3 & 4.
