Russia unleashes largest drone attack on Kyiv ahead of its founding anniversary
(Reuters)
Russia unleashed waves of air strikes on the Ukrainian capital overnight as it prepared to celebrate the anniversary of its founding, Kyiv Day, on Sunday (May 28).
Officials called it a record drone attack on the city - the largest since the war started.
Ukraine's Air Force said it downed 52 out of the 54 Iranian-made 'kamikaze' drones.
Falling debris killed a 41-year-old man, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said, and set a three-story warehouse on fire.
Reuters witnesses said air raid alerts started soon after midnight and some people stood on their balconies screaming insults at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
With a Ukrainian counteroffensive looming 15 months into the war, Moscow has intensified air strikes after a lull of nearly two months, chiefly targeting military sites and supplies.
Kyiv Day marks the official founding of the city 1,541 years ago.
Usually it holds street fairs, live concerts and special museum exhibitions - but this year celebrations were planned on a smaller scale.
==> Btw i checked something recently regarding Drones, especially EW (Electronic Warfare) after reading that "Ukraine was losing 10,000 drones per month" (losing ~45% of their drones?) Which is not really verified.
- Ukrainians captured alot of material including last version of some EW equipments and even gave 1 to americans...
- Ukrainians also "developped" new kind of ammunition for drones, basically something kind of cheap autoguided (air ground)
- Trained 3000 troops with drones and seems there are altitudes where it's safe to use drones vs EW
Imho it's possible they do well again with drones. Will see soon enough i hope.

This quote sums up the predicament of this war. People in the west are just mad that Russia is playing empire better then we are now.
What Russia is doing in Ukraine is exactly what (we) did in Iraq.
Testing out new military doctrine and toys
Doing direct comparison in-between Iraq and Ukraine was intellectual suicide, all my condolences.
