The UK is the most surveillanced country in Europe. The level of inequality is as far as I know the worst in europe. Their home office actively pursues racist agenda's and their economy has no hope of recovery within the next decade. With the cost of living crisis set to deepen over the next 7-10 years its probably not the best time to go there now.

On the flip side the english people are very pleasant and their football is great.

Well to be honest - Finance / Law / Consulting / Trading and London itself has adapted rather well and I don’t see big movement of skilled decision makers away from London. Chinese, Americans, Africans still enjoy their leisurely strolls through boutiques of Mayfair.

Paris was never going to work for Bankers et al as living there requires French and Parisians themselves are pricks on a whole different level. Germany never took off after the sunset of Deutsche Bank. Netherlands was poised to take in a lot of companies as they are very English friendly, but that didn’t work out as Dutch are scaring business away with environmental extremism, bonus caps and all kinds of business restrictions. All my friends in high finance in London are doing extremely well, buying properties, cars and expensive watches. Going seems to be good for them.

Now I understand the rest of the country is indeed quite screwed (funnily enough it was the regions that wanted Leave and London voted Remain). Industry (cars, agri, production) is suffering as their biggest export market became complicated to export to.

Meanwhile in Russia.
Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and Chairman of the Union of Summer Residents of the Moscow Region Nikita Chaplin gave advice on the improvement of garden plots. He listed the main anti-trends of this summer, which, according to him, will only spoil the appearance of the dacha. The deputy is quoted by RIA Novosti.
Chaplin recommends not decorating summer cottages with gypsum gnomes, plastic ponds and colorful pebbles. According to him, all this has gone out of fashion. “Don't waste money and effort on ideas that are no longer relevant. Sculpture has a place to be if it fits into the design of the site organically,” the parliamentarian noted.

It seems the debate on this subject has not been settled, at least in Belgorod

In the Belgorod region, a quarrel between neighbors has grown into a real place of hostilities. According to media reports, the incident occurred in the city of Valuyki.

The 35-year-old local resident argued very privately with his neighbor. At one point, his nerves gave out and he decided to act in a serious way - he took a grenade and went to his offender. With a deft throw, the grenade went into the neighbor's yard, there was an explosion, fortunately, no one was hurt. Damage was received to the fence and facade of the house.

i mean... you could just look it up and educate yourself before posting demonstrably wrong claims...

bulgaria, montenegro, and russia are the leaders in terms of income inequality in europe. lithuania and italy also rank higher than the UK.
the UK certainly has its issues, and brexit didn't help, quite the opposite, but it's still a decent place to live - especially if you compare it with much of eastern europe, let alone russia...

Interesting. Means Wikileaks is banned in Ireland? You can use the following link to read it I hope. https://archive.is/2022.10.17-092831/https://wikileaks.org/plusd/cables/08MOSCOW265_a.html

It’s a confidential diplomatic cable leaked by a Assange where ambassador to Russia who went on to become head of CIA in the current Biden admin explains that accepting Ukraine and Georgia into NATO is not a good idea as Russians might react violently. Mind you this is February 2008, ahead of NATO Bucharest summit of April 2008 which was followed by Russian invasion of Georgia in August 2008.

I hope you appreciate the subject line of this memo:

“ NYET MEANS NYET: RUSSIA'S NATO ENLARGEMENT REDLINES”

That is one interesting lecture.
First of all Russia says there that Ukraine nato membership isnt necessary for security because the cold war is over and there is no military risk from Russia.
What a bullshit that was. Nato is needed just as much as during the cold war, in fact we are back in cold war.
Russia also says that Ukraine joining nato could potentially create unrest in Ukraine, with possible split the country.
Such a caring neighbour Russia is, they wanted the best for Ukraine, they didnt want any unrest in Ukraine but apparently launching a full invasion on the country is all right.

So in short, Russia fooled nato, fooled the Western people and Ukrainians. They said Ukraine doesnt need nato membership for their security, that nato is a cold war relict, and requested not to let Ukraine join so to maintain friendly relations, but it turns out they did it so they could attack Ukraine in the future.
Im not surprised, I know how Russia does diplomacy. They ask for something, then in some years they ask for something else, something more. So if you want to be friendly with Russia, you need to keep giving them things. And one day you wake up and realize you have given them already too much/everything.
