There is a redemption path, to unite with the west.
Russians were following it in early 90s, hovewer there were too many rich and kgb people there who didnt let the country reform and so they came back with evil Putin as their leader.
Nazi Germany transformed into today peaceful Germany, so its possible for Russian people too.
Its not easy to change though, because Russia has been Russia for last 300 years and how do you change 300 years of tradition of doing bad things? Not easy

Would you say everything bad in Eastern Europe is because of Russian interference and everything good is because it aligned itself with the west?

Germany transformed into what it is today because although it is a Political and economical behemoth in Europe since reunification, It is literally a military eunuch with a foreign military stationed in their country.
I am not saying that they will turn " bad " otherwise, they just don't have the military clout to have influence enough to threaten USA's uni polar status.

Now about your question about USA recruiting spies:
We are dealing with an evil country, that does various very bad things: influences elections, launches propaganda bots on social medias, funds pro-russia political parties over the world. They also want to expand their territory, and in their National TV they say about going west in Europe until Lisbon. Lisbon is the most western part of EU, in case you arent familiar with Europe geography.
Obviously Russia has spies all over the world, and so USA also needs spies in Russia.
USA is a freedom capital, but the freedom doesnt defend itself just by being good, USA needs to be not only free, but also effective to stop all the bad people.

Facts don’t matter.

It’s all about making stuff up to have the high moral ground against the untermenschen.

I think he really, truly believes all that untermensch stuff. Straight out of 1930s nazi propaganda. No wonder his uncle got sent to gulag. Probably he wasn’t exactly a nice guy either.

Hovewer things arent that easy.
There is also this church thing, which is usually good because it tells people to love each other and be polite to each other, but its also intolerant about LGBT, invitro, abortion at the same time.
There is also a political difference, poor people want more social country with high taxes, while rich people want minimal taxes and country without too much social spending.
Its difficult to find the right, proper balance in the country.
