Losing their status as a platform would present them with so much legal risk (from all sorts of directions, not just pertaining to politics) that their whole business model would fall apart.
It would force them to follow a strict free speech guideline, with only the content which is violating actual laws being bannable. It would force them to go back to where their platforms were in 2012 or so.
