I'm already seeing some western media sources debunking the Kinzhal claim and saying their Ukrainian air defense sources are denying it and not making any such claim. Doesn't help people are unironically circulating that video of Ukraine downing its own drone and claiming its video of a Kinzhal taken down, a bit like posting a video of shooting down a weather balloon and calling it a successful intercept of a MIRV ICBM
Just doesn't make sense at face value, the patriot isn't designed to shoot down hypersonic missiles. Even when they slow down and aren't evasive in the final ballistic approach, they're still an absurdly small cross section on an incredibly fast moving object, far beyond its capabilities. Might as well tie the patriot's radar platform to a barrage balloon and try to float it into the path of the missile

Now lets put on our critical thinking caps and between the contradictory claims by the Ukrainians, knowing that they've repeatedly made obviously false propaganda claims throughout the war that have been credulously repeated by western media, and the astronomical odds of a patriot ever being able to shoot down a kinzhal under any operational conditions- what is the most reasonable assessment? Do contextless pictures of a mostly intact nosecone of an unidentifiable object that may or may not even be a missile, let alone a kinzhal (and looks suspiciously like its not the right size, not the right material, not destroyed in a way consistent with the claim, and is likely made out of literal poured concrete), give us reasonably believable proof that one was downed by a patriot? And then somehow crashed and stayed intact on the ground despite traveling at supersonic speeds even after slowing down from its hypersonic cruising phase?

If Ukraine claimed that president zelensky borrowed the Joker's gun from the '89 Batman and shot down a MIG with it, we'd still have the AP and WaPo putting all their journalistic integrity to the test by laundering that propaganda.

Even if it transmits information during flight, Russians could not know if it was shot down or simply malfunctioned. And if shot down - what shot it down. Where was the patriot placed. What and where detected the incoming missile.
Sometimes its better not to say anything, this way you dont risk giving out any information. Reduce the risk, this is the right policy.

Kinzhal aren't that special, their speed isn't that super great, the shot isn't that much of a fantastic exploit, but US & Ukraine would definitely hyper the news: it boosts US sales whiles destroying Russian credibility.
