this guy deserves 3 life sentences. the individuals trying to cover this up should be getting a minimal of what van dyke did

certainly tragic and the man deserves his sentence or more. But never forget the circumstances that creates these sort of cops. the environment creates them just as it creates criminals. don't hate them. pity them.

if this was an isolated incident that wasn't nearly as bad as this one... i'd agree with you. the reality of what officers face on a day-to-day basis is grim at best.
still, individuals such as van dyke should not be given any sympathy or pity. he has numerous witnesses speaking against his prior actions. this individual is as corrupt as the people he's supposed to protect us from.

Yeah, the job creates that mindset. Trust me. It is sad that it does. That is just what happens in that sort of environment. It all adds up, psychologically.
