Why were you surprised ?

Because China has had Russia's back on these types of votes so far. This resolution explicitly calls Russia out as the aggressor and implicitly as being in violation of international law.

The Chinese have always maintain her position because of Taiwan. Which means she doesn't agree on Russia's action as far back as Crimea.
Abstaining on certain resolutions doesn't mean the Chinese back Russia on the war.

I wrote this to Ofthevoid in reply to his comments.

The domestic toxic narrative in the United States have spread world wide I guess.
Just because I don't support the left I must be right wing republican Nazis. Just because I don't support the right I am a left wing progressive genital mutilator.

Honestly speaking , 10 to 15 years back , no one even talks about transgender the way they do now and no one gave two hoots if a black man plays a traditional white role in movies.
But here we are, I guess some people or a group of people manage and successfully brain wash the entire West to do a divide , conquer and profit. And idiots fell for it as we can see right now.

NATO is expanding when countries decide they need protection from Russia and apply to join NATO.
Russia/USSR is expanding when it conquests either by force (Chechnya, Ukraine etc) or by corruption (Belarus).

Baltics are small countries, dont compare them to Ukraine.
Its like 5:1 I think.
Baltics invasion can be done quickly, before the NATO manages to move their troops.
Plus as I said, after Russia conquer Ukraine their potential increases, by like 40% I would say.

NATO isn't monolith, we see it clearly.
The more far away from Russia, the less motivated country is.
There is a feeling among some western countries (and Hungary) that Russia ain't really bad, and that stops them from taking necessary actions.
They think just because USSR didnt attack them during Cold war, they won't attack. But its wrong way of thinking, because for example Russia didnt attack Ukraine for 25years, so a time proof doesnt really prove anything.

That's why its important to have a strong Eastern Europe NATO section, because we know how to deal with Russians.
But we need Ukraine on our side, because Russia is 120mln country and Eastern NATO is currently only like 80mln.

Since when Chechnya was a sovereign state?

The notion that Russia would try to take all of Europe is laughable, but surely not for a lack of ambition on the side of Putin and his inner circle. If there was any chance of pulling it off, I have no doubt that they'd try. It's just that Russia is so weak, economically, demographically and also militarily, that they would get wiped out by the joint force of the European countries, even in scenarios where NATO/the US don't join the party.

I think so too, but we need to prepare for the worst option possible.
Worst option: will the countries make a joint stand?
Are you sure that western countries will send their soldiers to defend eastern countries?
Russia uses to occupy Eastern Europe in XIX century, the excuse is ready to use, that they barely bring XIX century back.
Then the next wave comes Germany, which Russian propaganda says are nazi again. Of course this is bullshit, but this could be nice excuse for people like ferdia who like to run away from the problems and get few more safe years.
Also Russia is weak economically, but this is not luxury cars or clothes that fights the war. Its the human beings.
Given that Russians live a poor life now, they are more adapted to harsh war conditions than a typical relatively rich European.
Also lets not forget that its possible Russians get more assistance from the China in the future.
So although Im rather an optimist, we Europeans need to prepare for the less optimistic possible scenarios.

It was sovereign between 1991 and 1999.
But the west didnt act back then, as a sign of goodwill for the new Russian government

The Kingdom of Hawaii also want to recognize their sovereignty so does Guam and the Okinawa and Ryukyu islands. Your point ?

2/3 of Hawaii people dont want to break with USA.
Also as I said, Chechnya was an Independent state for about 8years, so its a different story than Hawaii.
