ISW: Satellite imagery indicates that #Russian forces have transferred armored fighting vehicles, tanks, and artillery systems from occupied #Crimea to an unspecified area as of April 25.

  • Russia already controlled Crimea and the port of Sewastopol. If control over the Black Sea was their primary concern, there was no need to invade the rest of Ukraine. Also note that the ice free port doesn't provide Russia with more than control over the Black Sea since NATO member Turkey controls the Bosporus and can cut off the Black Sea Fleet from the world's oceans.
  • NATO statutes prevent a country involved in an ongoing war from joining, so if Putin's primary concern had been Ukraine joining NATO, he had already succeeded at making that impossible when he created a frozen conflict in the Donbass which he could heat up again anytime he wants.

Additionally, accession to NATO requires an unanimous vote by all current memembers, including tacitly pro-Russia countries like Turkey or Hungary, or countries with strong economic interest in normal relations with Russia, i.e. Germany.
  • And last but not least: why is Russia rather unfazed by the prospect of 1000km of new NATO borders with Finland, but supposedly spooked by the prospect of 1000km of new NATO borders with Ukraine?

Russia leased the naval base from Ukraine, there was no problem until NATO announced in 2008 that the alliance welcomed Ukraine and Georgia as future members, you know that

2008 NATO summit --> Euromaidan --> Crimea annexed + Eastern Ukraine uprisings. That is the order of events and this is well documented

Finland =/= Ukraine, no Russian naval base in Finland, you know that, no large ethnic Russian minority in Finland, you know that

Why do you keep repeating the same stuff while all that stuff I pointed out is available online, well documented? Do you refuse to look into sources just like sauceman?

It's a fuzzy situation because in Russia the state and regime are as one. Yes, obviously a democratic Ukraine is an enormous threat to Putin's legitimacy, but Russia also has interests independent of Western interests, and Western control of 35 million Ukrainian Slavs puts Russia in a hopeless position. To be a great power, Russia must reassert control over Ukraine and Belarus.

Russia is a country with a population of just 145m people, horrible demographics and an economy the size of Italy. Do you seriously think 45 million additional people would turn them into a great power again which can compete with the U.S., the EU, China or India? If that truly is Putin's ambition, it's a hopeless one. The ship for Russia being a great power has sailed once and for all when they chose to invade a much smaller country, but then utterly failed to steamroll them.

Clown

No power is going to accept something like that to happen, if it were the US then simply the US would decide their counter reaction, it's the same for Russia, what do you not understand FFS, use your brains for once.

YOU claimed Azov was dismantled, news flash: it's NOT

Lol, what?! ^_^

There literally was a major pro-Western political movement in Ukraine going back to at least 2004, when the so-called Orange Revolution ousted the pro-Russian president and left the Russians seething.

Your arguments are all over the place. Geostrategic concerns with regard to NATO expansion have no logical connection to concerns about the minority rights of ethnic Russians.
And again: the "naval base" talking point is moot because Russia already controlled Sewastopol before February 2022...

You know you already posted this link and I already refuted it so I will say it again: once you visit the link provided by meanwhile and open up the first link in the appendix (which is used as the starting point for that link) you will be exposed to ultra-nationalist racist propaganda. not for immature minds.

1. "Nazi Germany actively used...Putin has built his Russia under the same principle. "
2. "The German Nazi regime fed on...In a similar fashion, Putin’s regime has..."
3. "The aim of Putin in his policy is the same as the aim of Hitler was..."
4. "Streets, squares and other objects were named after dictators"
5. "in the early years of Putin’s presidency people were talking about the emergence of his personality cult"
6. "Letter Z was present on the insignia of the 4th SS-Polizei-Panzergrenadier Division...Symbol V in Nazi Germany was used as...Russians use Latin letters Z and V"
7. "Nazi Germany had a cult of superiority of the “Aryan race...Similarly in Putin’s russia"
8. "Nazi Germany brutally violated the norms of the international law...Similarly Putin’s russia..."
9. "Only one party was allowed in the Nazi Germany...Putin’s Russia has a de-facto single-party system"
10. "In the Nazi Germany homosexuals...In Putin’s russia"

this goes on for pages and pages.

So go ahead and keep posting that wiki link which supports racism and bigotry.

correct, as i posted earlier pro-western politics in Ukraine are as old as Ukraine itself. they go up and down in flux but always existed.

why it shocks people that the grand kids of the people starved to death by Russia might not all love Russia is beyond me.
