TLDR: 2nd 30 mins relates to the Dollar (well from 40:00+)

(v) The US has weaponized the dollar against the developing (and developed) world, and will sanction any country that tries to move away from the dollar. As a consequence any country that tries to dedollar first needs to be able to wean itself/cut itself off of the dependence of the trade it currently has with the US and the West.
(vi) The Ukraine war is hastening the decline of demand for the Dollar and with an alternative sources of finance (China), countries are being discouraged by the aforementioned dollar weaponization. "Look what we did to Russia etc we will do that to you as well if you dont do as you are told".

To my mind (v) and (vi) above are accelerated when China steps in and says "here you go, free trade deal" "yes please" "thanks". It is mentioned that China's trade is rapidly expanding by x4 / x5 times as a consequence of (v) above.

Edit- I would just add, I think the two speakers do a good job of explaining why the US thought this strategy would work, which is something I've been struggling to wrap my head around for awhile.

They explain the US is aware China is overtaking them and have been for awhile, and that Ukraine is essentially a sort of "holding" operation to maintain its control over Europe by making them dependant on the US by cutting them off from Russia.

To me that makes sense, more so than starting all of this over Ukrainian sovereignty.
