Probably has another week before it fully falls. Maybe two.

I'm curious what's happening with the telegraphed Ukrainian counter-offensive. We in the west have heard for many months that come spring time Ukrainians will counter with all the might of western hardware+ western trained soldiers. We're almost in May and there have been no real counter-attacks.

Maybe it was feign with counter coming a bit later into early summer? Could be this. Another possibility though is to what extent have Ukrainians exhausted their counter-attack forces by feeding reinforcements and hardware into defending Bakhmut. None of us know the full truth and only time will show but it's possible choosing Bakhmut as the hill to make a stand was highly costly and could have severely depleted their ability to counter.

My take is that propaganda is keeping morale up by focusing on a concrete strategy (counteroffensive) to reclaim what is lost - while attempting to dehumanize the opposite party as much as possible by releasing footages of last summers atrocities (eg that video where a guy gets his head cut off). Absence of a solid plan - morale will plummet I guess as people will start asking questions.

I don’t understand what’s the strategic purpose of Bakhmut for eg Russians except to kill as many Ukrainians/Wagner guys as possible. This reduces the amount of UA forces and also reduces Prigozhins power as he might have political ambitions if he does too well in Ukraine.

The start was already expected end april - early may - end of mud season, so not much surprising.

Maybe they will proceed a gradual increase rather than a hasty attack ? Wait and see.
