If Russia is allowed to annex Crimea through a referendum, then why cant NATO "annex" the rest of Ukraine through its own process?

Russia knows this wont happen, and part of it is why it created a frozen conflict for years. NATO doesnt take in countries which are in conflicts. Lets play out a thought experiment: put NATO and Russia in equal standing - both want Ukraine. Now, which of these two assimilated parts of Ukraine to itself. NATO? The big bad threatening NATO failed to annex Ukraine. Oh no, now Ukraine must be invaded even more aftrer Crimea 2014 and Donetsk/Luhansk separatism.

Why did Russia start the invasion in 2022 when Ukraine wasnt anymore eligible for NATO because of the unresolved conflict in East Ukraine and the dispute about Crimea? Russia already stopped NATO expansion with those actions.

Stop fooling yourself

I think you kids need to read this very carefully and prepare wel for what’s coming.

I’ll set up a new thread with my take on what Lagarde just said in a few hours when I’m able to, enjoy:

Translation (IMHO) "there's a war coming, and you're either with us or against us."

The pictures happened after the invasion. I referred to events prior to the invasion.

I fully agree with what was said in the link by NATO. It does welcome countries that want to join it. Nothing controversial about it. But you didnt answer my questions. In real life, politics is not reduced to what is written behind one link, theres many factors.

Answer the ones i posted specifically (2 simple questions):

1) why invade Ukraine when its NATO aspirations have been halted already in 2014, Russia got Crimea, and NATO clearly states it doesnt accept applications during conflicts (Crimea/Donbass)?

2) ok, Russia takes Crimea and Donbass. Wouldnt it be fair to accept that NATO gets the rest? I mean, since we play the equivalence game, we have to acknowledge NATO security concerns with the same consideration as the Russian ones, as per your arguments, no?

I posted the official NATO source from 2008. We all know what happened after that (Euromaidan in 2014 followed by the annexation of Crimea and war against separatists in the East).

The pictures are 100% relevant, NATO decided to double down and Stoltenberg insists that Ukraine will become a NATO member which contradicts what you claimed in the post I quoted namely:

Quote (Neptunus @ Apr 17 2023 05:46pm)
Russia already stopped NATO expansion with those actions.

So in this post you're still wrong, NATO still wants Ukraine for geo-political reasons and NATO sees winning the war as step one in that process as shown in the first picture I posted:

If NATO succeeds (Ukraine wins) then Ukraine can become a member which is what NATO wants, refer to second picture:

This is all factual and correct, NATO wants Ukraine to become a member which is why NATO and the combined West have sent Ukraine a shit ton of military aid and war funds, intelligence, military training and so on.

I suggest you consider all that and try again.

Russia bravely protecting itself from terrible Nato agression:

Do you know that Ukraine gave up 2000 nukes in exchange of protection from the US, UK, and Russia in a 1994 agreement known as the Budapest Memorandum ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum

At a joint press conference in January 2003, Putin responded to a question about Ukraine. “Ukraine is an independent sovereign state, and it will choose its own path to peace and security”

The invasion of Ukraine may also have violated international agreements that Russia is a party to, including:
The 1975 Helsinki Final Act, in which the USSR promised not to violate the "territorial integrity" of other signees, including through the use of force. Russia and Ukraine were both created as a result of the USSR's breakup.
The 1994 Budapest Memorandum, in which Russia, the United States, and the United Kingdom agreed "to respect the independence and sovereignty and the existing borders of Ukraine."
The Minsk Agreements, which are a pair of ceasefire agreements signed by Russia and Ukraine relating to the conflict between those countries that began in 2014
