yeah dindu

Terrible standard to have for information disseminators. This isn't your random yahoo on Facebook spouting whatever, they have ethical journalistic obligations. It's literally part of their job. If you haven't verified it then don't print it, it's super simple. Too bad this ethical obligation has been tossed out the window just to push a narrative.

Wow you have super low standards for our political leaders. No wonder America is going to hell, people like you will let them off the hook for telling blatant lies because "they're not journalists".

e/ For real though, there's no reason we can't criticize both journalists, pundits, and politicians for telling lies. However, I think you misunderstand journalistic ethics. It is not the standard that you "make sure it's 100% accurate" before reporting it. It's not unethical to say "A questionable source told me this, and I'm relaying it" as long as you give the real source. It's unethical to misrepresent the veracity of facts, but it's not unethical to put out unverified facts as long as you make sure to say they're unverified and waiting for corroborating information. It's then up to the reader to take the source into account and make a conclusion.

Obama told people they can keep their doctors, wasn't true, one example off the top of my head. We could do this all day with pointing to random politicians. You could point to pretty much every politician since the beginning of governments and find they lied somewhere, somehow. Not saying it's okay but it has been the status quo for ever. So unlike you guys i'm not holding Trump to some higher standards. He's in politics, so he lies.

And lol at the bold, what a crock of shit. Do you mind pointing me to where exactly CNN said this about their fact check on Trump? To think of it, it's an oxymoron to 'fact check' something and then claim they are unverified facts don't you think?

You're not even responding to what I'm saying. Everybody in public life disseminates information. You have no good reason to think that journalists should be held to an entirely different standard than elected officials or media figures who don't call themselves journalists.

This widespread belief is poison to our politics. Conservatives thrive on the idea. The media figures they listen to can get away with misinforming all day every day, but a legitimate journalistic outlet messes up once and it's supposed to be an indictment of the whole profession.

I'm still waiting on an argument as to why any reasonable person would have this idiotic double standard.

Yep.

These clips reached a far wider audience than some CNN debate fact check, but ofthevoid doesn't care, because inaccuracy and bias only matter when he perceives it to hurt the Dear Leader, or if the offending party is labeled a "journalist" at an outlet that isn't pro-Trump.

Except they are held to different standards and it's explicitly part of their code of ethics. Similar to accountants with GAAP or lawyers or a host of other professions. Journalists know this, just because you're ignorant of it doesn't mean every one is. Maybe try a simple google search before making statements that are so easily proven wrong.

Your first line is a perfect example of why I say you are a lazy thinker.

Your line of reasoning is that since politicians have always lied, therefore all lies from politicians are status quo. You are totally ignoring that there's different degrees to how much politicians lie and the importance of what they lie about.

Similarly, I could retool your argument with a simple word replacement of "politicians" with "journalists" and it would invalidate your entire line of argument because journalists have always lied (because they're people) even in the presence of ethical codes. Similarly, politicians have ethical codes they are expected to behave by but have always violated, Trump in particular has been an especially bad violator.

This is why I don't say you are a bad person, or you are disingenuous, or etc. because you're not. Your style of thinking is lazy. That's what defines you. Intellectual laziness.

Lets start talking about the actual virus now and less about trump and politics man. That shit makes me go limp real quick and I rarely go limp. I'm always hard as a rock. Lol.
It's rare to see situations like this. This will be in history. The entire earth will advance cause of this. After this is over with in two years.....we'll see some pretty cool discoveries in the medical world.
Idk what it is but that's what usually happens. We never come out of disasters like this without new innovations. In this case i'm hoping the medical world will get a big ass push. Instead of a limited amount of budgets and dealing with budget cuts lol
Im assuming the entire science world will revamp how we deal with flus. Meaning we will figure out a new process to come up with new vaccines. Fuck these laws and codes. We need to go straight to human trials real quick and im thinking we should test on death row prisoners lol.

Things will have to change. Our science is amazing but we have to push a lot further now. We need nasa type advancements in the medical world. You see trillions lost. So now the world will not bitch and moan about putting a few extra billion into our medical research lol. yay

I don't think this will cause a lot of medical progress. We have had several modern epidemics to draw data from, and we have a pretty good idea of how viral spread works already. I just don't see a lot of big advancements off of this crisis.

In short term news, we're gonna have multiple million infections in the U.S. in about a week. It's gonna get really bad.

I do see something weird though. There's a split in the science community where one half says "The china data has more or less mimicked the spread in every other country. If you do the math you get the same infection rates as other countries and there's no real halmarks of it being invalid" and "Don't trust the China data, it's full of inconsistencies, they weren't clearly reporting their infection rate" and these are from people who I usually trust, so I really don't know who to listen to.

well i see a lot of advancements in many ways. It's nothing obvious you know? Even something as simple as procedure....codes....blah blah. Things will change and i hope we can test on prisoners. Probably not but maybe we will if ebola fucks covid-19 and spreads. Then we will test on humans within weeks instead of playing with animals for months.

I fucking love seeing what humans are capable of and right now we're about to get real this fall-winter. Things will get real REAL. Right now we're just slowing things down lol

Not a chance in hell we open up testing on prisoners. That's incredibly unethical and won't happen in the modern world.

Covid and Ebola would have no way to recombine, and the ebola outbreak is over at this point so there's no concern over that. The worst we will see from Covid is if it mutates or recombines with another flu virus and the infection starts all over with the new strain. That's definitely in the realm of possibility.

The line of people waiting to pick up ashes at a single crematorium was longer than their total death count.
