ukraine = bad doesn't undo russia = bad, or even russia = worse.

Ukraine has been under the Russian sphere of influence for a century or more. they are the way they are (corrupt, violent, etc) because Russia allowed them to be, they wanted them to be that way. Russia shares more share of the blame for what Ukraine is than any other nation. we have been fucking with them since like 2010, Russia's been fucking with them since 1910. we are not the same.

Even when all of that is true it still doesn't make sense to push NATO expansion knowing that your nuclear armed adversary won't accept you taking control over the Black Sea (Crimea / Sevastopol)

scenario 1: Russia lets Ukraine fall to the west because they calculated even if they won it would cost too much

scenario 2: Russia invades and wins eventually, splitting Ukraine and taking the eastern half, but it costs too much

both are a mild "win" for the US, from the lens of pre-war calculations of the Russian response. 1 was pie in the sky, 2 is where we are today.

Nukes aren't coming out, at least i hope. and both sides know it.

and of course its actually the military industrial complex, selling weapons to Ukraine or the US govt to give to Ukraine. either way they get paid off our tax dollars.
