- Russia attacked Chechnya which declared independance after the USSR collapse in 1991. Russia did atrocities in Chechnya.
It's bad.

either you don't know what "semantics" means, or you fundamentally misunderstand what NATO is, because that's just absurd.

there is a clear distinction between a NATO mission on one hand, and individual NATO member(s) deciding to engage in military operations themselves, without a NATO mandate.
let me give you the easy to understand crayon version: for it to be a NATO operation, it requires all members to agree. otherwise it's not a NATO mission.

And you believe the Muslim Chechens did not receive support from Muslim groups, Muslim countries and so on? --> you are wrong

And you believe the Chechens didn't do terrible things to captured Russians? --> you are wrong again
