and the health secretary confirmed positive too...and the chief medical officer has symptoms so is self isolating. a large portion of the government will have it.

you know who did actual work to prevent some of the most egregious provisions, and to secure some of the direct help to americans? bernie sanders - while biden stammered his way through feeble political attacks on trump and progressives.
that said, you should actually read the bill and marvel at some of the gems that made it in there. many so called representatives did 'the best they could' to use this to make their donors happy - and again, i am in no way uncertain about your support for that kind of legalised corruption, i'm just pointing it out.

and yes, calling her 'deranged' for her passion IS petty. just because you can be even pettier doesn't make it not so.

I wasn't aware that Sanders and his staff were part of the negotiations but that's good if he was. But it is a little unfair to compare Sanders to Biden in this scenario since Sanders is a Senator. I'm glad that Sanders is doing his job!

I'm not going to read the bill in it's entirety because that's a profound waste of time. It should surprise NO ONE that there's a lot of pro Republican legislation. That's how negotiations work! In my opinion, it's GOOD to have pork, riders, etc. because it facilitates smooth governance. When you're a principled twat, you hold up progress (this is why I fucking hate people like Rand Paul). If everyone gets a little bit of something, everyone wins.

I wouldn't call it corruption either but I suppose everyone has their own definition of that. Putting the interests of businesses, the wealthy, the few, etc. isn't corruption in my book. To me, standing up for billionaires is no different than standing up for black rights, gun rights, etc.

As I compare the variety of responses from different vantage points (nurses, stat nerds, politicians, media, different countries) and read between the lines, I am starting to develop the impression that 3million deaths in the next 6 months is the desired outcome of the plan that's being implemented.

that's not gonna happen..

over 3 months in and there have only been 27k deaths and the virus is likely reached or very soon will reach its global peak (presuming it turns out to be a seasonal virus).
we can expect 50-70k deaths globally by the end of summer

lol. that's stupid.

if those representatives were elected by the votes of billionaires and CEOs, that'd make sense. if, however, those few wealthy people had massively disproportional (in america's case even exclusive) influence on policy making, then it's completely different in nature than standing up for groups that not only represent a significant portion of your actual voters, your mandate, but also don't have any power outside their vote.

the reason you think that's just how negotiations are supposed to work, is because you grew up in a system where that kind of deal making, where everybody tries to put in some shit for their personal sponsors, even in times of extraordinary crisis, is the norm. just because that has BECOME the way 'smooth governance' is done in america (obviously it wasn't always so), doesn't mean you have to support and shill for it. i think you're confusing realism with fatalism. there's literally no reason to not strive for and support improvement, except you directly benefit from the broken system.

obviously it'd be stupid to read the whole thing just to prove a point we're both very well aware of, but just for a little exercise: open the document and search for "sunscreen" - and try to figure out why you're getting results.
