The Kurds can simply move into Assad territory

Badly phrased, but correct for practical purposes: the Kurds already WERE on Syrian territory, the Assad regime was just too weakened to exercise its power over the region while the Syrian civil war was onging. Now that they have struck a deal with Assad, they will almost certainly have to hand ccontrol over Rojava back to Assad once/if the Turkish offense has been stopped.

Baffling how obsessed you are with Trump and how you think he is the center piece of something happening in the ME.

There comes a time when people don't care about what diplomats have to say. Either the Kurds moved or Turkey was coming. Delaying by talking doesn't change that condition. After years of talking about it and us 'managing their concerns' they decided to do something about it.

This wasn't a new concern. Everyone paying attention and even remotely informed knew that the Turks were not going to allow Kurdish militia to control the Syrian border with Turkey. This was known 5 years ago. Just because they media didn't spam it for you to pay attention to doesn't mean the Turks were all hunky dory and all of the sudden because...Trump, they decided to go after the Kurds.

Strawmans... strawmans everywhere.

Acknowledging Trump's weakness on Syria and lack of negotiating skills is too hard for you, so you have to pretend there's just nothing any president could've done to prevent the Turks from coming in the way they did.

I'm glad but somewhat surprised that our liberal friends have found a backbone and want to aggressively counter Turkish interests.

A complete 180 from the passivity preached during the Obama admin in Syria, Ukraine, and Iran.

I have to hope that this is the gradual maturation of childhood beliefs, and not some shameless hypocrisy.

Assad is already a war criminal. He is only in power because a world super power protected him to keep their client state.

Russia is the big winner this presidency. I can see why they worked so hard for Trump.

I've been consistently anti-intervention, this case is no different. Just because Trumps position matches what my ideology has consistently been isn't enough to scare me from going against consensus.

The 3 wars cost us 6 trillion dollars. We got nothing out of them. It's not weakness to not want to be a part of a regional conflict and getting stuck there for 20 years. We're like 15 years into the war in Afghanistan and we still can't completely leave because Taliban might take over. So no, it's a hard pass for me to have permanent military outposts in regions of war just because neocons can always find 99 reasons for it.

Sitting in Turkey doesn't equal a full blown war. we were preventative in our presence. staying in Syria imo can't even be called hawkish.

Russia just took control of the US military base in Manbij about 35 minutes ago.
