There is an attacker (Russia) and there is a defender (Ukraine). There are also some countries providing some assistance to Ukraine (for simplicity lets call them NATO but its not just NATO).
So an attacker took 15% of Ukraine territory, and has apetite for more, so there could be possibly a case fire but not really longtime peace.
Russia could be maybe interested in a temporary cease fire to regroup and train new soldiers, since their initial invasion plan failed.
On the other hand Ukraine isn't happy with Russia occupying part of their territory, is angry and feels that cease fire would benefit Russians more than Ukrainians.
Of course if NATO stops its assistance, Ukraine falls.
Hovewer NATO knows that if Ukraine falls, Putin will attack some eastern NATO countries next.
Would the peaceful western NATO countries help the eastern NATO countries? thats not so obvious. The NATO could possibly collapse as a project.
So NATO isnt backing off from helping Ukraine, they prefer to send money and ammo to Ukraine rather than fight a defensive war in their own territory.
We dont know who will be next USA president. If it will be once again Russia friend, he could even disband NATO.
That will mean end of USA as a World Super Power, so it would be bad for USA also, but democracy is unpredictible.
