Legally funding pro-democracy NGOs in Russia goes in the same influence basket as hacking the emails of the DNC and distributing them, hacking Podesta's emails and distributing them, running a social media propaganda campaign of fake Americans, and possibly infiltrating a political campaign with Russian operatives.

Heh. I cannot believe the right equates those two as even remotely similar. And in general, I cannot believe the Putin sympathizing i've seen lately by users that claim to not be either right nor left... why go out of your way to give kleptocratic criminals the benefit of doubt is beyond me.

while i agree somewhat putting China and Russia in the same thought is a bit off to me. Russia = italy economically, they just so happen to be sitting on the 2nd biggest weapon's arsenal in the world.

russia is not as powerful economically as china but they did annex crimea and all we got was a lot of hot air being blown in the west
whatever can be done to strip putin and the russian oligarchs of their power/influence would be good for both russia and the world imo

Resistance to land grabs or govt takeovers is a finicky thing. You need a lot of localized resistance that you can fund. Crimea is heavily Russian demographically, and Ukraine sits awfully close to Moscow and these people have been "Ukrainians" for under a lifetime. I'm not sure if an intervention by the west would have been worth it in the long run. Sanctions don't seem to be terribly effective but seem like more than "hot air" to me.

If they are, and the Russians expose it, I'll give it a listen. Otherwise it's just a claim without any evidence from a foreign leader who sees the CIA in his morning cereal.

you're implying that Russia exposing it is in their best interest or at least that it's reasonable to think it would come out. Putin isn't served by exposing CIA interference that has yet to hurt his grip on power. Us nurturing domestic Russian resistance isn't a real attack, it's us sending over a drop ship full of marines to keep him busy and at home. But like I said at the start of this thread/topic, there won't be a paper trail for almost any of the Russian interference and there wouldn't be any paper trail to ours either. These are govt agencies, not 400 lb hackers, afterall.
